ABOUT PEBBLE PLACE
Who is PebblePlace.com and why are we providing this website?
HOW WE STARTED
In early 2004 PebblePlace.com began as a simple web page listing which Leica-R lenses fit Canon EF and EF-s dSLRs. The single web page ran for about a year and when Apple added iWeb to their ’06 iLife suite in late 2005, PebblePlace.com got a make-over and began to look like a real website. For the next year family vacation pictures were added along with other various photographs. In 2006 the first product reviews were added. 2007 marked the introduction of the medium format blog. In 2008 the forums were added along with the Canon 1Ds Mark III blog and new product reviews.
WE ONLY WRITE ABOUT WHAT WE OWN
Many websites reprint industry product releases, firmware announcements and other marketing or advertising releases. PebblePlace.com tries to be different. We write about the equipment we own. If I write about a medium format digital back, a Canon or Nikon dSLR, a Contax or Hasselblad lens or accessory - I have purchased the item and use it just like any other photographer would. Occasionally we write about industry news if it relates to other articles published at PebblePlace.com - such as the Mamiya ZD Digital Back in 2006 & 2007. For the most part I prefer to write about things where I have firsthand experience. PebblePlace.com starts where DPreview (and others) end. How did that equipment do in the field? Did we still like XYZ after 1 or 2 years of use?
CONTAX C/Y AND LEICA R-MOUNT COMPATIBILITY DATABASES
When I first started using Contax and Leica lenses on the Canon 1Ds, most of this information was not available on the web. Hundreds of hours were spent web-searching, posting questions on forums, exchanging emails, reading articles and on-line posts, translating non-english pages, looking for specifications, trying to resolve contradicting information...
Fast forward to 2008 and still, most of this information is fragmented across the web. Since much of the information on PebblePlace.com had to be gathered as part of my own lens research, it makes sense to publish it for others - and hopefully it will save the next person some time. With the help of others via forums and emails, we maintain the data and publish it in the Contax db and Leica db pages.
OUR CONTENT IS FREE
Developing content is expensive and amazingly time consuming - trust me on this! All of the content here is free. No paid reports, no memberships - not even a Paypal “donate” button. To help recover our costs we use Google’s AdSense program. This is a passive income stream which generates revenue when readers click on the Google Ads. PebblePlace.com also participates in B&H Photo & Video affiliate program. Frankly, for the most part these programs have been a bust..., but we keep hoping.
Hyperlinks in blue such as this one, B&H Photo, are to retailers where PebblePlace.com has an affiliate relationship. Hyperlinks in grey such as, www.PebblePlace.com, are links inside leading else within PebblePlace.com or to other information outside of PebblePlace.com. More information about the affiliate programs is available in the Privacy Statement.

PebblePlace.com is not liable for any price changes or price errors at B&H Photo or other companies advertising on PebblePlace.com or PebblePlacePhotography.com.
Portions of this web site may publish readers comments and opinions (notably the PebblePlacePhotography.com discussion forums). PebblePlace.com & PebblePlacePhotography.com do not assume or have any responsibility or any liability for the readers comments or opinions, nor do we claim ownership or copyright that which belongs to the original poster.
As of December 1, 2009 FTC requires bloggers to inform readers if they received enticements from a company, such as free products, free trips or other such perks. Unfortunately, we get none... I only wish I could be so lucky. The FTC document is available for download here. Of particular note, I found this section on page 9 most applicable to PebblePlace.com:
“Thus, a consumer who purchases a product with his or her own money and praises it on a personal blog or on an electronic message board will not be deemed to be providing an endorsement. In contrast, postings by a blogger who is paid to speak about an advertiser’s product will be covered by the Guides, regardless of whether the blogger is paid directly by the marketer itself or by a third party on behalf of the marketer.”
Every item reviewed on this website was purchased for personal use, so I can pretty much praise or bash at will - it is after all, just my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. The only exception would be the commission received from B&H if somebody clicks on add and completes a purchase. And those revenues are so small that I don’t I could afford a lawyer for more than 2 or 3 hours...
