This is common question since Contax (Carl Zeiss) serial numbers are not truly linear. Lenses were produced in batches, so there will be a run of serial numbers, then a huge gap, and then the next batch. Similar to Canon lenses, there was some additional coding in the numbers, so deciphering a Contax (Carl Zeiss) serial number is not easy.

There are some books available for dating Contax lenses, but there is a Hasselblad webpage where you can type in the serial number: http://www.hasselbladhistorical.eu/HT/HTDating.aspx. The website provided plausible results for 4 out of the 5 serial numbers I tried. It probably is not exact, but it may provide a reasonable approximation.
